Methodology & Data Sources
How Every Number on This Portal Is Produced
InfoStablecoin operates a single frozen metrics register. No figure enters any page unless it carries eight mandatory fields. This page documents that rule and the reasoning behind it.
The Eight-Field Rule
Every metric published on this portal must carry: metric, value, unit, as_of, source, url, last_verified, confidence. A number without all eight fields is decoration, not data — and decoration is not published here. Metrics are re-verified against the primary source before any page update.
Confidence Levels
High — confirmed by an official source (statute, regulator, central bank) or two independent aggregators agreeing. Medium — single aggregator or methodological divergence between sources; always quoted as a range. Low — raw flow data unsuitable for headline use; restricted to methodological notes.
On-Chain Volume: Read This Before Citing Totals
Headline stablecoin transfer volume (annualized figures in the tens of trillions) is raw flow. It contains double-counting, wrapping, exchange-internal shuffling and wash activity. We never present raw flow as settlement value and we never use it for claims such as "stablecoins surpass card networks". When we cite volumes, we use deduplicated transfer value only, and we say so.
Supply Aggregation
Aggregates differ by issuer perimeter (e.g. 59 issuers vs. a narrow on-chain set). Our headline aggregate is issuer-reported market capitalization (~$310B, 17 Sep 2026, 59 issuers). Where aggregators diverge — as with USDS ($7–10B) — we publish the range, not a point estimate.
Regulatory Milestones
Timeline entries are limited to statutory dates and published regulator targets. A "target" is always labeled as such and carries medium confidence until confirmed. Missed deadlines are reported as missed — including when the miss concerns frameworks we cover favorably.
Corrections
Errors are corrected in the register with a new last_verified stamp, and materially wrong figures are retired to an obsolete list rather than silently edited. To request a correction, use the contact page; corrections are applied within two business days.
